Interpersonal Therapy
Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) is a present-oriented, short-term psychotherapy that focusing on interpersonal relationships, however, interpersonal difficulties are not thought to be the cause of mental illness. IPT therapists are orientated towards the belief that mental illness is closely tied to impaired social functioning and as such, focuses on people in the social contexts. This fits because people with mental illness often have difficulties in their interpersonal interactions. Reducing symptoms is not the primary focus of IPT, although it is another objective. IPT concentrates on the interpersonal difficulties associated with the onset, maintenance, and relapse of illness.
