Wealth

It has been found the even middle-class people generally have poorer health then more wealthy. This connection may be because economic resources may shield people from stressors that are deleterious to health. Higher income also makes health care and health insurance more accessible, as well as, access to healthy foods, safe neighborhoods, better schools, and recreational facilities. The paradox is that the poor health limits ones ability to increase income and, therefore, creates a descending cycle that can also span multiple generations. This topic relates to the topic of how exercise and personality are linked by highlighting how exercise is effective in increasing health and effecting personality, as indicated by increases in self-efficacy and decreases in depression, in low-income populations. Personality has also been found to be associated with physical function in low-income populations. It has been found that attitude toward exercise were significantly associated with observed physical function and self-reported disability among low-income older adults.
